Sonja Marie Green, 70, of Greenup passed away Feb. 22, 2018 in the Ashland Community Hospice Care Center.

Mrs. Green was born March 24, 1947, in Grayson to the late Ellis and Geneva Thornberry.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Larry Green; granddaughter, Mary Elizabeth Green; two sisters, Barbara Thornberry and Carol Coleman.

Sonja was a nurse anesthetist, working in the medical field for 45 years. Following her graduation from nursing school, she received the highest scores in the state of KY on her boards; being a modest person she would never bring this up in conversation. She loved to work outside with her flowers and birdfeeders; she was an avid reader and loved going on vacations with her family.

She is survived by one daughter, Heather P. (Carrie Slone) Green; one son Mark (Angela) Green; three grandchildren, Mark II, Angel (Mason Pennington) and Solomon; one great-grandson, Lukas; three brothers, Elmer (Rose) Thornberry, Ted (Helen) Thornberry and Terry (Mary Jane) Thornberry; brothers-in-law, George Green, Garland (Elizabeth) Green and Danny Coleman; K9 Companion Buddy along with many other nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 pm, Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2018, at Carman Funeral Home in Flatwoods. Burial will follow in Bellefonte Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be from 6-8 pm, Monday, February, 26, 2018 at the funeral home.
