Hannah Belle Thompson, 89, of Flatwoods, was taken home to be with her Lord on Wednesday, January 24, 2018, surrounded by her family and friends.
She was born September 30, 1928, in Flatwoods, a daughter of the late William Wirtland Gilley and Della Mae McKenzie Gilley.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers Garold, Maurice, Ronald, Raymond, and Bill Gilley; sisters, Gwendolyn Gilley, Marie Clark, and Lillian Turley.
Hannah was a 1946 graduate of Russell High School. She was a loving wife and mother, opening her home to many children whom she helped care for. She was a lifelong member of Advance United Methodist Church, where she took care of the nursery for many years, and in recent years, she served as secretary in the Sunday school office. She was an avid reader who enjoyed cooking, but the greatest joys in her life were spending time with family and especially her grandchildren.
She is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, Lawrence B. “Skip” Thompson, two sons, Lawrence Allan (Melisa) of Russell, William W. “Bill” Thompson (Leeronna) of Russell, and Carol Ruth (Greg) Stevens of Bellefonte; grandchildren Dr. Ryan Bradley Thompson, Lt. USN of Pensacola, FL, Alyssa Joyhannah Thompson of Russell, Austyn William Thompson of Russell, and Brittany Kaylyn (Chase) Linville of Lexington; and one great-grandchild, Bailey Kaye Linville of Lexington; she is also survived by one sister, Ninette Amis of Flatwoods and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends who will mourn her passing.
Funeral services will be at 2 pm Saturday, January 27, 2018 with Sean Shroll and Don Young officiating. Burial will follow in Bellefonte Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be after 11 am Saturday at the Church.
