William "Bill" Boyd Topping

August 27, 1947 ~ May 1, 2021 (age 73) 73 Years Old

Tribute

William “Bill” Boyd Topping, 73, of Flatwoods passed away May 1, 2021 after a courageous battle with ALS, surrounded by his loving family and friends Richard and Florina Scott and John Linn at home.

Mr. Topping was born August 27, 1947 in Holden, WV, to the late Arnold and Ann Preece Topping.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by two siblings, Sharon T. Shepard and Samuel David Topping.

Bill was a proud Veteran of the United States Air Force where he served during Vietnam and received the Air Force Commendation Medal. During his 40 year career in Government he worked as a Federal Law Enforcement Training officer where he trained others in fields such as Presidential Security and high speed pursuit. Bill was also formerly employed by the Federal Bureau of Prisons for 27 years, where he worked for FCI Ashland, loving his coworkers like family. He was a Freemason and Shriner, member of the Lawrence County, Ohio, Masonic Lodge 198; also, he was a member of the Flatwoods American Legion post 325, he was a charter member of the VFW Post 8850 , the Ironton Moose Lodge, Fraternal Order of Eagles and he was a past Lion. He enjoyed being outdoors fishing, boating, hunting and other shooting sports, as well as woodworking. He was a 1966 graduate of Dawson-Bryant High School. 

Over the years of service to his country and community Bill was able to reach and make a positive impact on many.

He is survived by his loving wife, Lisa Kitchen Topping; two sons, Matthew Topping and Mark (Jeannette) Topping; grandchildren, Sophia Topping, Julia Topping, William Topping and Halley Grace Topping; two brothers, Arnold (Carolyn) Topping and D.J. Topping; very special aunt, Mary Maynard; along with a host of other friends and family that will miss him dearly.

Military and Masonic Honors will be August 27, 2021 at 11:00 a.m., at the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery North East.
