William “Bill” Boyd Topping, 73, of Flatwoods passed away May 1, 2021, surrounded by his loving family and friends Richard and Florina Scott and John Linn at home.
Mr. Topping was born August 27, 1947 in Holden, WV, to the late Arnold and Ann Preece Topping.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by two siblings, Sharon T. Shepard and Samuel David Topping.
Bill was a proud Veteran of the United States Air Force where he served during Vietnam and received the Air Force Commendation Medal. During his 43 year career in Government he worked as a Federal Law Enforcement Training officer where he trained others in fields such as Presidential Security and high speed pursuit. Bill was also formerly employed by the Federal Bureau of Prisons for 27 years, where he worked for FCI Ashland. He was a Freemason and Shriner; also, he was a member of the Flatwoods American Legion post 325, the VFW Post 8850, where he was a charter member, the Ironton Moose Lodge, Fraternal Order of Eagles and he was a past Lion. He enjoyed being outdoors fishing, boating, hunting and other shooting sports, as well as woodworking.
Over the years of service to his country and community Bill was able to reach and make a positive impact on many.
He is survived by his loving wife, Lisa Topping; two sons, Matthew Topping and Mark (Jeannette) Topping; grandchildren, Sophia Topping, Julia Topping, William Topping and Halley Grace Topping; two brothers, Arnold Topping and D.J. Topping; very special aunt, Mary Maynard; along with a host of other friends and family that will miss him dearly.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
