Virginia L. Carter, 94, of Russell, passed away peacefully March, 10, 2018 at her residence.
Mrs. Carter was born Jan 3, 1924 to the late James Dyer Calfee and Gussie Baker Calfee in Gassaway, WV.
In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband Donald Carter SR., whom she married on September 27, 1947; nine brothers and sisters, Merle Robinette, Robert (Doc) Calfee, Sadie Shumate, James Dyer Calfee Jr., William “Bill” Calfee, Gussie Lee Calfee, Mary Margaret (Peggy) Hilton, Jack Calfee, and Jean Calfee.
Virginia was a member of the Bridges Christian Church. She is a former owner of Carters Dairy Bar and employee of Bannister’s Market. She was raised in a large family and led a very active life with her family and friends. It was a joy of her to make quilts for as many people as possible. She had a wonderful since of humor and enjoyed playing games such as dominos with her family and friends.
One son, Donald (Linda) Carter Jr.; one daughter, Sandra (Jim) Pedersen; grandchildren, D.J. Carter III, Garrett (Natasha) Carter; great-grandchildren, Talan, Mya, Kapri Carter; two sisters, Fannie Rutherford and Anne (Ted) Kessinger; sisters-in-law, O’Dell Calfee and Virginia L. Carter; Brother-In-Law, Benjamin Carter; her dominos ladies, Virginia, Sandy and Jane.
Graveside services will be at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, March 17, 2018, at Bellefonte Memorial Gardens in Flatwoods.
Visitation will be from 11 am - 12:45 p.m., Saturday, at Carman Funeral Home in Flatwoods.
In lieu of Flowers donations are suggested to Community Hospice at 1480 Carter Ave, Ashland, KY 41101.
