Virgil “Buckshot” Adkins, 83, of Raceland, passed away Friday, August 2, 2019, at Kings Daughters Medical Center.

He was born March 31, 1936, in Raceland to the late Amanda Adkins.

Buck graduated from Raceland High School in 1954, was known for his grit and toughness on the football field. Had many football accomplishments such as All NEKC, All County junior and senior year, and Honorable Mention All State. He was a selfless provider to his family and friends. He retired from ARMCO after 44 years of employment. Before and after his retirement at ARMCO, Buck spent many hours framing pictures for family and friends in his work shop. He was inducted in the inaugural Raceland High School Football Hall of Fame in 2013.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Carolyn Callihan Adkins of Raceland; son, Jeff (Janet) Adkins of Louisville; daughter, Jill Adkins of Raceland; Grandchildren, Tyler (Jessica) Baldridge, Christina (Brandon) Klaiber, Emma and Jack Adkins; and one sister, Carol June (Ron) Robinson.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 6, 2019 at Bridges Christian Church, where he was an active member, with Kevin Fraley officiating. Burial will follow in Bellefonte Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be after 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, at the Church.

In lieu of Flowers Donations are suggested to the Bridges Christian Church.
