Violet Jean Tushay

Violet Jean Tushay, 92, passed away on March 9, 2022 at her home in Flatwoods, where she had resided for the past twenty years.  She was born on December 19, 1929, a daughter of the late Dallia Jacobs Sturgill and James Beckham Sturgill of Knott County, KY.  She was married to Robert D. Tushay of Flatwoods for 40 years, and was preceded in death by her former spouse, James M. Siple, Sr.

Violet was taken from our midst, a mother of such sterling qualities of mind and heart that the pen utterly fails to do her justice.  She was a stalwart Christian and member of the Flatwoods Church of Christ.  She supported the Russell Independent School System, as a past Parent Teacher’s Association (PTA) president and was a former employee.  She attended Morehead State University.  Violet is survived by one son, James McCallister Siple, Jr of Flatwoods; a step-son, John Tushay (Karent) of Phoenix, AZ and three daughters; Karen Barber (Ernie) of Flatwoods, Joni Granrud (Mark) of Redding, CA and Mary Jean Todd (Gordon) of Norfolk, VA; seven grandchildren, John A. Morten, Michelle Farris, Leslie Collier, Joshua Siple, Miranda Adkins, Jason Eatmon (Christine), Seditra Garcia (Bobby), Daniel Applewhite (Angela), Nicholas Applewhite (Christine) and Loren Sadler (Kimberly); and fourteen great-grandchildren. 

Funeral services will be at 1:00 PM, Saturday, March 12th at Carman Funeral Home, Flatwoods, KY.   Visitation will be 11AM until service time. Burial will be in Bellefonte Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
