Ronnie Dewey Bishop

Ronnie D. Bishop, 76, of Ashland, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2018.

He was born May 19, 1942, in Grundy, Va., the son of the late Russell and Winnie Bishop.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sadie Bishop; his mother and father-in-law, Howard and Flossie Friley; a sister, McCletta Rice; three brothers-in-law, Millis Newsome, Jim Rice and Pete Moyer; two sisters-in-law, Valorie Hamilton and Imogene Moyer; and a great-granddaughter, McKenna Howard.

Ron loved his family unconditionally and worked hard through the years to make sure they were provided for. He was a retired truck driver and was most recently employed at Napa Auto Parts in Ashland. Over the years, Ron has worked for various trucking companies in the area including Goodwin Excavating, Fleet Transport and Reinhardt Trucking. He attended Ashland Assembly of God and was a former member of Louisa Church of God, where he served as Sunday School Superintendent and a Deacon. Ron had also attended Catlettsburg Church of God and Gateway Church.  

He is survived by two daughters, Melissa (Lee) Bishop and Ronda Nixon, both of Ashland; his son, Rusty Bishop and wife, Michelle of Spring Hill, Fl.; his sister, Clotine Newsome of Columbus, Ohio; 13 grandchildren, John, Darren, Shelby, Roni, Bailey, Kaeli, Pacey, Colby, Ashbye, Jackie, Tiffany, Jack and Olivia; five great-grandchildren, Nolan, Gavin, Braylynn, Avery and Jacob; his very special niece, Cheryl Ryan of Raceland; a good friend, Jim Riffe of Ashland; and a host of nieces, nephews, friends and extended family who will miss him dearly.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 5, 2018, at Carman Funeral Home in Flatwoods. Burial will be in Golden Oaks Cemetery in Ashland.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 4, 2018, at the funeral home.
