Robert Eugene “Bob” Thomas Sr., of Raceland, passed away Friday, July 13, 2018, in Kingsbrook Lifecare Center in Ashland.
Mr. Thomas was born May 18, 1928, in Greenup County, to the late Hanson Bell and Eunice Pierce Thomas of Raceland.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Claudine Gallion Thomas; a sister, Mary Frances Noll of Winter Garden, Fla.; and a brother, Joseph H. Thomas of Tyler, Texas.
Bob was a lifetime native of Raceland, having resided there for 90 years. He was known and loved by many. Bob retired after 46 years as a Carman from CSX Transportation. He began working for the railroad at the age of 16.
In recent years, Bob enjoyed “porch sitting” and visiting with family, friends and neighbors, who stopped by to discuss current events or reminisce of bygone times. His integrity and sense of humor will long be remembered by those who mourn his passing and look with hope to that day of joyful reunion, confident in knowing that Bob had accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior.
Bob is survived by his loving son, Robert E. “Gene” (Mel Rose) Thomas Jr. of Jacksonville, Fla.; an adoring daughter, Karen Lynn Thomas (Charles) White of Fayetteville, N.C.; two grandsons, Charles Robert “Bobby” (Christina) Thomas and William Michael (Lindsey) Thomas; two great-grandchildren, Brady Liam Thomas and Caroline Thomas, both of Jacksonville, Fla.; a granddaughter, Heather M. White of Lake View, S.C.; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 17, 2018, at Bellefonte Memorial Gardens in Flatwoods with the Rev. James W. Harris officiating.
In lieu of flowers donations are suggested to the wounded warrior foundation.
