Richard C. Akers, 83, of Flatwoods passed away July 9, 2021 in Kings Daughters Medical Center.
Mr. Akers was born September 28, 1937, to the late Mack and Essie Boggs Akers in Raceland.
In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by five brothers, Gene Akers, Jesse Akers, Gerald Akers, Donnie Akers and Denny Akers; along with two nieces Sherry Wilson and Audra Akers.
Richard was a former machinist for CSX Railroad and served his country in the United States Army. He enjoyed raising his roosters, playing rook with his family, watching Hee-Haw and listening to his favorite singer, Gene Watson. He was a hard worker with a good sense of humor. He would light up whenever his grandchildren were around and loved spending time with them.
He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Ruby Lynch Akers; two daughters, Sheri (Ray) Davis and Michele (Tom) Hencye; grandchildren, Rachel Davis, Sarah Davis, Curtis Davis, Heather (Nick) Sherman and Hollie Hencye; two brothers, Larry Akers and Bobby (Vickie) Akers; two sisters, Faye (Bill) Grimm and Tammy Akers; along with a host of family and friends who will miss him dearly.
Funeral services will be at 12:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 13, 2021 at Carman Funeral Home.
Visitation will be after 10:00 a.m., Tuesday at the funeral home.
