Tribute

Ralph Edward Hoy, 92, of Russell, Kentucky, died peacefully on September 22, 2022 at Community Hospice in Ashland surrounded by family.  Ralph was preceded in death by his son, Edward Allen Hoy, his beloved wife of 58 years, Patricia (Patty) Hoy and his brother, Willis Hoy, Jr.   He is survived by his granddaughter, Rachel Nelson (fiancee Jeremy Rose) of Kenner, Louisiana, his niece and loving caretaker, Bonita Gearhart of Grayson, a host of nieces and nephews, and special friend Ed May (Susie) also of Russell.

Ralph served in the United States Air Force from 1950-1958 and was deployed to Japan during the Korean Conflict.  After leaving the service he returned to Ashland  where he met his future bride at Murphy’s Five and Dime.  Ralph went on to work at Armco Steel for over 37 years, retiring in 1993.

Ralph and his family were active community members.  From decorating veteran’s graves, to displaying annual holiday decorations, to attending city council meetings, they were well known for their devotion to community and could always be counted on to lend a helping hand.

Ralph had a special interest in antique cars, loved traveling out West and in later years could often be found sitting outside Rail City Hardware catching up with friends.  He will be remembered in particular for his humorous sayings, “Have a good day……..if you want to,” and “If you need me, I’ll call you.”

At Ralph’s request the family will hold a private graveside service.
