Ralph Edward “Gus” Gustin, 79, of Flatwoods, Ky. went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, on Sunday afternoon, May 12, 2019, peacefully at his residence surrounded by his loved ones. He was born on July 25, 1939 in Lawrence County, Oh. to the late Bernard and Myrna Wilson. He was adopted by his Grandparents Charles and Carrie Gustin. In addition to his late parents and grandparents, he was predeceased by his brother-in-law, Harry Parks and nephew, Jeff Armstrong.
He is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Nettie Gustin, three daughters and two sons-in-law, Cindy and JR Gullett, Sandy Mowery, and Gina and Jason Lewis. Six grandchildren, Alisa Thompson (Tom), Jason Addis (Melissa), Heather Caudill (Eric), Randi Taylor Morrison, Michael Mowery (Allison) and Tanner Gullett. Eight great-grandchildren, Austin, Blake, Isabelle, Haley, Keenan, Kenadie, Gunner, and Gabby.
He is also survived by his sister, Phyllis Parks, nephew, Chuck Armstrong, niece, Kelli Karlich and their families, two half siblings, Allen Wilson and Linda Wright (Ronnie) and his good fishing buddy, mother of Cindy and Sandy, Susie Gustin.
After graduating from Ironton High School in 1957, Ralph served his country proudly in the US Navy. He went on to work at Dow Chemical in Haverhill, Oh. and retired in 1997. In his younger years he had a passion for rebuilding old cars. His hobbies included fishing and woodworking. He was a born-again Christian, loved hearing God’s word and attending church at Wurtland Missionary Baptist Church where his son-in-law, JR, is the pastor. He was known for his sense of humor and love of good food.
A private celebration of life service will be held at a later date at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to Community Hospice Care Center at 1480 Carter Ave. Ashland, Ky. 41101 in Ralph’s memory.
