Phyllis Witten Franklin, 82, of Richmond, formerly of Raceland, passed away October 25, 2020 in Telford Terrace.
Mrs. Franklin was born December 10, 1937 to the late Everett and Nellie Colley Witten.
In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband Gary Franklin; three brothers Glenn Witten, Clifford Witten, Everett “Pete” Witten Jr.
Phyllis was a member of the Wurtland Freewill Baptist Church, where she was saved as a teenager. Her passion through the years was assisting her husband’s ministry, working side by side with him at their Churches, including, Sheridan Gospel Mission, Unity Christian Church, Brushart Christian Church, Chinn’s Branch Freewill Baptist Church and Old Steam Baptist. Phyllis was a perfect example of how to show the love of God to others. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star #144 and served as the Worthy Matron twice; she also served as Mother Advisor of the International Order of The Rainbow for Girls Assembly #28. Phyllis was also formerly employed by Amir’s Pizza Palace where she was known for her delicious red dressing. She also worked for Dr. H.V. Bailey and was an Avon Lady and sold Tupperware. Phyllis loved sewing, crafting and cooking big dinners for her family.
She is survived by three daughters, Cheryl Newman, Kathy and husband Tim Heaberlin, and Debbie Peffer; grandchildren, Gary and Ryan Newman, Dr. Jacob Heaberlin, Andrew Heaberlin, Sierra, Shane, Ryan and Kevin Castle; great-grandchildren, Gracie and Noah Newman, Sophia Heaberlin and Lucas Welsch, Brooklyn, Kalea, Leelan, Mason, Mia and Raiden Castle; and a host of nieces and nephews and other close family and friends.
In lieu of flowers donations are suggested to the Gideons International.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m., Friday, October 30, 2020 at Carman Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Caroline Cemetery in the Witten Plot.
Visitation will be after 11:00 a.m., Friday at the funeral home.
