Paul H. Gilliam

December 24, 1930 ~ August 23, 2021 (age 90)


Paul H. Gilliam, 90, of Flatwoods, passed away August 23, 2021 at his residence surrounded by his loving family.

Mr. Gilliam was born December 24, 1930 in Shelbiana, KY, to the late John and Clora Gilliam.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by one granddaughter, Alycen Marie Jobe; along with six siblings, John Gilliam Jr., Hassell Ervin Gilliam, Phyllis Mae Branham, Carl Edward Gilliam, Mary Louise Donta, Ralph Gilliam, Maxine Gilliam.

Paul proudly served in the United States Navy. He retired from CSX Railroad as a Conductor; and was a member of the Danleyton Missionary Baptist Church and attended the Grace Baptist Church. He was an avid UK Basketball fan and Cincinnati Reds Fan. He loved spending time with his brothers and sisters playing rook until 3:00 a.m. and was very involved in his grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s life.

Left behind to carry on his legacy is his adoring wife of 64 years, Sara Alice Hensley Gilliam; two daughters, Paula (Billy) Rymer and Karen Gilliam; six grandchildren, Jennifer (Steve) Hurst, Heather (Jeremy) Lavender, Kristen (Johnny) Gleason, Jordan Jobe, Stephanie Huffman and Bethany (Steve) Chiappone; seven great-grandchildren, Abbey, Alycen, Phoenix, Odric, Aiden, Hudson and Mikey; one brother, Kermit Robert (Mildred) Gilliam; and one sister, Janice Marie Ratliff.

In lieu of flowers donations are suggested to the International Fellowship of Christians and Jews at 30 North LaSalle Street, Suite 4300, Chicago, IL60602-2584

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m., Friday, August 27, 2021 at Carman Funeral Home with Pastor Marvin Boggs and Irvin “Buster” Gilliam officiating. Burial will follow in Bellefonte Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, August 26, 2021 at the funeral home.

Due to the rise in Covid-19 in our area the family requests the wearing of masks and social distancing.
