Paul Richard Moore, 96, of Russell, KY passed peacefully on Sunday, May 22, 2022.

He was born on March 15, 1926 to the late William and Olive Henry Moore in Ironton, OH. Paul was a WWII veteran of the Army from 1944 to 1947, with infantry duty in the Philippines and Korea where he served his country proudly.

After his military service, he worked as a home builder and built many homes in the area.  Paul worked at AK Steel as a mechanic and electrician for 30 years. After retirement he become a locksmith, serving the tri-state area for many years.

He was an avid rifleman, gunmaker, and competitor.  He also was an instructor at many base camps including Camp Perry. He enjoyed deer hunting, archery, metal and wood working, reading Louis L’Amore novels and listening to Johnny Cash. He had numerous interests including learning new trades, building computers, and making working replica cannons from the Civil War era.

Paul was a 50+ year Mason of Smith Lodge #775 in Flatwoods.  He was a very active member of the El Hasa Shrine in Ashland.

Beyond all of his accomplishments, he was an incredible man, sought after for his great wisdom, experience, and knowledge. He was a responsible, self-reliant, authentic, loving, and kind husband, father and grandfather. He was practical, positive and a pleasure to be around.

Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 66 years Emma Jean, one grandson Joshua Stewart, and eight siblings: Calahan, Elizabeth, Erma, James, William, Eloise, Raymond, and Mary Lou. 

Surviving are his two daughters; Sandra J. Stewart of Carlsbad, CA and Cheryl (Brian) DiBartolo of Highland, CA, six grandchildren; Heather Stewart of Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, Courtney Stewart of Marina Del Ray, CA, Ashley Stewart of Atlanta, GA, Alessandro, Nicolas, Emma DiBartolo, of Highland, CA, four great-grandchildren; Alexa, Alison, Alba, Athena, three sisters; JoAnn Bailey, Duretta Browning, Lorena Klaiber, and a host of loving family and friends that will miss him dearly.

Friends are welcome to attend his visitation on Saturday, May 28th from 11:30 AM-1:30 PM at Carman Funeral Home, Flatwoods, KY. Following visitation, military honors will be performed by the United States Army and the VFW Post 93. A graveside service will follow at 2:00 PM at Woodland Cemetery, Ironton, Ohio.
