Opal E. Elkins

Opal E. Elkins, 89, of Flatwoods passed away peacefully November 12, 2020 at the Community Hospice Care Center.

Ms. Elkins was born December 24, 1930 to the late Oscar and Stella Anderson Sowards.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her first husband Doris Blanton and her second  husband Frank Elkins; one daughter, Sandra Rice; three siblings, Lena Garvin, Wayne Sowards and Paul Sowards.

Opal was a member of the Advance Memorial United Methodist Church where she actively involved in the United Methodist Women’s Ministry.  She was a former beautician that enjoyed quilting and watching her great-grandchildren play sports.

She is survived by one daughter, Candy (Marc) Berry; two grandchildren, Chris (Amy) Berry and Leann (Hal) Akers; four great-grandchildren, Haley, Jeanna and Lara Akers and Trey Berry; three sisters, Wanda Gwinn, Norma Clark and Donna Gedda; along with her son-in-law, Lynn Rice.

In lieu of flowers donations are suggested to the Advance Memorial United Methodist Church or the Greenup County High School Cheerleaders. 

Services will be private.
