Mona Morgan

Mona Moise Morgan passed away November 10, 2022, in Russell KY, ten days short of her 92nd birthday.  She was born Nov. 20, 1930, in Baton Rouge LA, the elder daughter of Harry and Mildred Moise. She graduated Baton Rouge HS at 16 and attended Louisiana State University, where she studied Chemistry for two years.  Although she always said she was not looking to get married, she met her future husband Travis Gene Morgan after he saw her picture on the bulletin board of the Methodist student center and asked to be introduced to her.  They married before Christmas 1948 and spent the next 73 years happily married. 

The couple lived in Louisiana, Texas (twice), Mississippi (where their two children were born), Arkansas, Indiana (twice), New Jersey and Kentucky.  After more than 30 years in Carmel IN, Gene and Mona moved in 2011 to Bardstown KY; she moved to Russell KY, after husband Gene died in 2021.

Mona travelled the world, visiting all 50 states, over 100 foreign lands and all continents except Antarctica.  Many of these trips were related to her work with the United Methodist Church, leading work projects in the Rio Grande valley and Libera, Africa.  She attended World Methodist Conferences in Nairobi, Singapore, Rio de Janeiro, Brighton, Seoul and Durban. She and Gene travelled extensively across the US, driving and camping out the back of their pickup.

  Mona is survived by two children, Kathleen Filkins of Ashland KY; David Morgan of Bloomington IN; her granddaughter Rachael (Justin) Turner of Ashland KY; great-grandsons Wyatt and Garrett Turner; and her step-sister Dee (Moise) Landford of Chattonooga TN.
