Mildred "Muffy" Riggs

Mildred “Muffy” Riggs, 91, Russell, went to be with her Lord and Savior, December 24, 2021 in the Ashland Community Hospice Care Center.

Mrs. Riggs was born August 15, 1930 in Greenup, to the late Wayne Meadows and Nell Eastham Meadows Womack.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Edward Riggs; and three brothers, Wayne, R.W. and Donald Meadows.

Mildred began teaching at the age of 19 in Greenup before taking a short break to have her children, afterwards returning to Marshall University where she received her master’s in teaching. She went on teaching for 70 years making an impact on all of her students’ lives before retiring. She was a kind and caring woman who never met a stranger and was the best cook you would meet. She loved to read and continued to teach those around her up until her passing. She was a member of the Advance Memorial United Methodist Church.

Surviving are two sons, Mark (Vicki) Riggs and Bruce (Kathy) Riggs; two daughters, Vicki Riggs and Lisa (Bob) Stevens; grandchildren, Aaron (Amy) Stevens, Jason (Jenny) Stevens, Katy Riggs, Julia (Michael) Coonrod Riggs, Sarah Riggs and Kenny Riggs; great-grandchildren, Skyler Mullins, Gracie Stevens, Ben Stevens and Emily Castle; along with a host of other close family and friends who will miss her dearly.

In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to the Ashland Community Hospice Care.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 29, 2021 at Carman Funeral Home. Entombment will follow in Bellefonte Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be after 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, at the funeral home.
