Mary Ann Hall Spillman, of Flatwoods, KY age 78, passed to her heavenly home on January3, 2023 in the ICU at Kings Daughters Medical Center, Ashland. She was born on August 13, 1944 in Wheelwright, Floyd County, KY to the late Milburn Hall and the late Margaret Hammond Hall. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Donna Sue Hall of Worthington, KY, a brother Kenneth Ray Hall of Auburn, NY, a son-in-law Greg Carey of South Point, OH, a brother-in-law Paul May, Sr. of Argillite, KY a niece Missy Moore of Ashland and nephew Andrew Hall, Pedro, OH.
Mary Ann was the proud daughter, grand-daughter and great-granddaughter of coal miners, she was a devoted mother and wife who manifested the Christian biblical model.
Mary Ann cherished her eastern Kentucky mountain heritage and spoke often of her memories growing up in the modern coal camp of Wheelwright with its modern amenities in the nineteen fifties.
She and Doug were saved in April 1973 at 13th street Free Will Baptist Church, Ashland. Two days later they were baptized and became members of that church.
She was a kindergarten Sunday school teacher, also teaching Vacation Bible School (VBS), Children’s Church, Church Training Service (CTS), Bible competition, Christmas plays and leading the Children’s Choir.
She also worked in the Ladies Auxiliary as vice-president, treasurer, mission’s chairman, at 13th street Free Will Baptist Church, Flatwoods, and is now a member at Oak Street Free Will Baptist Church. In earlier years she also sang in the church choir.
Her personality was marked with a kind and generous spirit but was very strong-willed in her core beliefs. She was a very conservative Christian and patriotic American never failing to vote as her civic duty.
She was a charter member of the former Tri-State Celtic Society in Ashland and enjoyed participating in her scot-lrish Celtic heritage.
Survivors include her husband Walter Douglas (Doug) Spillman, two daughters, Kimberly Ann Spillman-Carey-Chaffin, (Jeff), Susan Renee Spillman, all of Flatwoods. A son Gregory Alan Spillman (Barb) of Carroll, OH. A sister, Betty May (Frank) of Argillite, a sister-in-law Sandy Hall of Auburn, NY and three very special God children, Noah, Jonathan, and Elijah Pennington of Florida.
Funeral service will be held on Friday, January 6, 2023 at 11:00 A.M. at Oak Street Chapel Free Will Baptist Church with Rev. Chuck Ferguson and Pastor Joey VanMeter officiating. Visitation for family and friends will be on Thursday at the church from 6-8 P.M.
Burial will follow in Kentucky Veterans Cemetery N.E.
