Tribute

Lorraine Kendall, 100, of Russell, went to dwell in the house of her Lord Jesus on Sunday, August 1, 2021.

She was born on November 6, 1920 in Kimball, West Virginia, and was the daughter of Lennie P. Hackler and Ollie Smith Hackler. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Robert Owen Kendall. Three sisters Dolores Kearns, Inez Young, Claris Harris and two brothers Larry P. Hackler and Ronald C. Hackler. She was the mother of four sons, Jim (Judy, now deceased), the late Dr. Bob (Roslyn), Gary and Terry (Toni). She also leaves behind fifteen grandchildren and thirty-four great grandchildren.

Until her death, she was the very first and last survivor of all six Hackler siblings. After her husband’s sudden and premature death, she went back to college to earn a science degree from Morehead State University and went on to become a celebrated High School science teacher who was formally inducted into the Russell High School Hall of Fame. Also following retirement, she was a longtime volunteer at Bellefonte Hospital, where her tireless efforts were similarly recognized and celebrated. She was a long-standing member of Worthington Nazarene Church where for many years she taught both Sunday School classes as well as Women’s Bible Study classes.

Funeral Services will be at 11:00 A.M., Friday, August 6, 2021 at Carman Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Bellefonte Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Thursday, August 5, 2021 at the funeral home. With a visitation an hour prior to service time on Friday.

In lieu of flowers, she and the family request that donations be made to Community Hospice at 1480 Carter Avenue in Ashland, Kentucky.
