After a full and happy life dedicated to God, his family, and service to his community, Kerry Sluss passed away on Thursday, December 30, 2021. He will be deeply missed by his wife of 37 years, Marilyn, siblings Karen Sue Parsley, Donna (Don) LaCroix, Kevin (Emma) Sluss, many nieces and nephews for whom he was a father figure, and a multitude of friends. He is now enjoying a heavenly reunion with is mother, Irene White Sluss, father George E. Sluss and a brother Ronnie Sluss.
Born in Williamson, WV to a large and loving family, Kerry earned two college degrees a Bachelor of Arts and Applied Science from Morehead State University as a first generation college graduate. He was a talented musician who sang and played tambourine. He jokingly said that he joined a band to meet girls, a plan that paid off when he met Marilyn, the love of his life. Side-by-side they attended Advance Memorial United Methodist church and built their careers at the U.S. Postal Service until they retired together to dedicate more time to their charitable causes. Serving others was at the heart of everything Kerry did. He was a Past Master of Warfield Lodge #882 F&AM, a member of Greenup Lodge #89 F&AM, and all appendant bodies of the Masonic Orders, serving in various capacities. He earned countless honors over the years, including; 33 ° Mason, Most Illustrious Past Grand Master of the Grand Council of KY, and various other Masonic awards.
Kerry never talked about his accomplishments; he was a humble man with a servant’s heart. He would not only give someone in need the shirt off his back, he’d take off his shoes too. His constant smile and jovial nature made everyone he met feel like a friend. When he wasn’t focused on volunteer work, he enjoyed walks with his dog Tebow, cheering on the Wildcats, listening to classic rock, and the occasional nice cigar.
Kerry achieved in life what he set out to: He made the world better. His family encourages anyone who would like to celebrate his legacy to do the same by making a donation to Alzheimer’s Association; at 135 E Huron St # 120, Jackson Ohio 45640 or El Hasa Shrine Temple; P.O. Box 5190, Ashland, KY 41105 charities, in his honor.
