Tribute

Joyce Potter, 83, of Raceland passed away May 23, 2021 at her residence. 

Ms. Potter was born May 19, 1938 in Rockingham County, Virginia, the daughter of the late Georgianna and Robert Crawford. She was the youngest child in a family of eight children and was nicknamed Baby.

She was preceded in death by her sisters and brothers, Ethel Mowbray, John Crawford, Robert Crawford, Ruth Pence, Lloyd Crawford, Grace Mowbray and Lilly B.  Hawkins .

Joyce was a former employee of Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital and Kentucky Electrical Supply, Ashland, Kentucky. She was a Kentucky Colonel, and served two terms on the Raceland Ky. City Council.

She was an avid animal lover, especially dogs. In her later years her dog Duncan and her cats became her constant companions. She never saw an animal she did not love! She loved music and sang in churches and nursing homes for several years, alone and in groups. Joyce loved to write songs and poetry most of her life. Many were published in the Ashland Daily Independent.

She was also preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd E. Potter.

She is survived by her four daughters Judy Jennings and Sharon (Lee) Stephens, both of Flatwoods, KY; Kimberly (Randy) Perry, Louisa, KY and Rhonda Potter, Worthington, Ky. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Shane Durham of Seattle, WA. Angie Stevens and Michelle Haney of Flatwoods, KY and December Sark of Ironton, Ohio. Her great grandchildren, Cody and Gage Stevens, Mia Reffitt, and Abigael Durham. Her great-great grandchildren, Jaycob Daily, Serenity Hudnell, Aidryan Spitler, Neveah Reffitt,  Parker Stevens , and Lincoln Stevens. Along with her furbabies, her cats Boo Boo, Rudy and Dolly and her dog Rocco.

Special thanks to the following people, her daughter Rhonda for all the love and care you provided to your mother during her last months. Her "adopted" son Jeff Picklesimer for his unwavering help and support. Jenny Potter who provided relief for Rhonda when needed. Her hospice family at the Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland and the following Home Hospice care providers, Kim McDowell, Tonya Wright, Betsy Cole, Jamie Green, Cassie Castillo and Renee Gillum.

Pallbearers will be Jeff Picklesimer, Cody Stevens, Preston Spitler, Randy Perry, December Sark and Gage Stevens.

In lieu of flowers you may donate to the Lawrence County Humane Society in Louisa, KY, PO Box 1331, Lousia KY 41230.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, May 29, 2021 at Carman Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday, May 28, 2021 at the funeral home.
