James R. Smith, 78, of Lexington, formerly of Flatwoods, passed away August 18, 2021 at his residence.
Mr. Smith was born November 26, 1942 to the late Walter Clifford and Irene Kitchen Smith.
In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his wife Barbara Gilliam Smith.
James was a former self-employed builder. He loved woodworking, building and working on race cars and motorcycles. He was also an avid gun collector and gunsmith. James was a former member of the local VFW, American Legion and the Eagles.
He is survived by three sons, Jim (Cindy) Smith of Lexington, KY, Tim (Holly) Smith of Benton, KY, and Chris (Corey) Smith of Panama City Beach, FL; four grandchildren, Nicci, Brock, Sam and Jake Smith; and two great-grandchildren, Cooper and Carter Smith.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, August 22, at Carman Funeral Home.
Visitation will be at 12:00 p.m. until service time, Sunday, at the funeral home.
