James Downs

James Downs, 88, formerly of West Russell, now of Fallsburg, KY, passed away July 28, 2022.

Jim was born March 11, 1934 in Ironton, Ohio and was the son of Rev. John C. Downs and Ruth Boggess Downs.

Jim attended Russell High School, was a Korean War Veteran, and retired from the United States Civil Service Commission after serving with the US Coast Guard on the Great Lakes, Treasury Department, Department of Defense, and the US Army Corps of Engineers where he was Resource Manager at Fishtrap Lake, Pikeville, KY upon retirement with 25 years of service.

Jim loved his God and Country which was instilled in him by his wonderful Christian parents. He attended the New Hope Church of God in Rush, KY.

In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by one daughter, Jina Michelle Downs, one sister, Lillian Ruth Downs Blair, one brother, John C. Downs Jr.

He is survived by two daughters, Jamie Collen Downs Bryant, Jerrie Dawn Downs Cossett; two sons, James Cain Downs and Jon Scott Downs; one sister, Lucille Downs Moore of Titusville, FL; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was loved and will be missed by his family and many friends.  

A celebration of life will be at 5:00 p.m., Saturday, August 6, 2022 at Carman Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m., Saturday at the funeral home.
