James Arthur Coburn, 87, of Ashland passed away January 5, 2018 in Oakmont Manor.

Mr. Coburn was born April 19, 1930 in Greenup County, to the late Leonard and Verna Coburn.

In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by four brothers, Paul, Earvin, Larry and Silas Coburn; three sisters, Lucy Mae Robinson and Mary Williams, Kattie Faye Powers; brother-in-law, Grant Carter.

James was a member of Williams Creek Church. He was a proud Veteran of the United States Army. James sang Gospel music with His Singing Servants for 37 years and was a member of the Gate City Gun Slingers for 15 years. He was a wood carver, loved to garden and spend time with his family.

Surviving is his wife of 63 years, Emma Coburn; two daughters, Sandra Rayburn and husband David, Teresa Coburn and domestic partner, Loren Jordan; one son Michael Bell and wife Sherri; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; one brother, Arnold (Wilma) Coburn; five sisters, Jean (Ken) Hensley, Donna Sue (Cliff) Isaccs, Linda (Bob) Tussey, Karen (Eddie) Rodgers and Minnie Carter; special friend of the family, Helen Gamble.

Funeral services will be at 11 am, Monday, January 8, 2018 at Carman Funeral Home in Flatwoods, with J. C. Caudill officiating.

Burial will be in the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Northeast. David Raybourn, Loren Jordan, Ben Robinson, Nick Stevens, Tommy Thompson, Paul David Tussey with serve as casket bearers along with the Gate City Gun Slingers as honorary casket bearers.

Visitation will be Sunday, January 7, 2018 from 6-9 pm at the funeral home.
