Golden Douglas Sloan, 80, of Flatwoods, passed away Sunday, Sept. 16, 2018, at his home.
He was born July 25, 1938, in Wurtland, to the late Lonnie and Gertie Puckett Sloan Sr.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Harold Sloan, Bobby Sloan and Lonnie Sloan Jr.; and two sisters, Della Cox and Ruby Melvin.
Golden was a member of Martha United Baptist Church in Raceland. He was an Elder and Moderator for several United Baptist Church’s throughout the area. He loved taking care of his little companion and the love of his life, Jessie and being with his family. Golden was a proud Veteran of the United States Air Force and a former Assistant Fire Chief for Flatwoods Fire Department; after 34 years he retired from Armco Steel. In his spare time, he enjoyed tinkering with appliances and fixing them for friends and family.
He is survived by his loving wife, Jessie Sloan; four daughters, Vickie (Wesley) Pigman, Rhonda (Jack) Todd Jr., Susan (Roman) Vleck, Peggy (Thomas) Kemper; 16 grandchildren, Kenneth Pigman, Kasandra Saylors, Joshua Sammons, Clifton Dean Fain II, Robert Montgomery, Tracy Kemper, Marvin “Joey” Montgomery, William Montgomery, Douglas Newsome, Travis Newsome, Joseph Holley, Jessica Todd, Edvan Kemper, Jeffry Todd, and Anneliese Vlcek; 12 great-grandchildren; one sister, Reba (Earl) Kazee; and two brothers, Clynice “Dean” Sloan and William Ray (Lois) Sloan.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Friday, Sept. 21, 2018, at Westwood United Baptist Church with Gary Murray and Clarence Thompson Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Bellefonte Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 20, 2018, at Carman Funeral Home in Flatwoods.
