Eva Juanita Vallance

Eva Juanita Vallance, 89, went to be with her Lord and Savior and passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 19, 2019 at Kingsbrook under Community Hospice care.

Juanita was born December 24, 1929, in Ashland, a daughter of the late Herbert Van Horn and Lucy Emmaline “Emmie” Jordan Van Horn

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her two brothers, Donald Van Horn and Charles Van Horn; and one sister, “Kitty” Van Horn Mullins.

Juanita was a member of the Rose Hill Baptist Church and OLB Vitality Center and Take Off Pounds Sensible and Keep Off Pounds Sensible Club. Juanita also worked at the voting polls for many years.

Juanita had many hobbies over the years, starting with skating at Black’s Roller Rink in Ashland; Bowling 1st at the Russell YMCA and then at the Blue-Ribbon Lanes. She then got into making crafts with her mother which evolved around making quilts, crafts, dolls and clothing to give away as gifts. She also baked birthday cakes for family or friends.

The biggest love in her life was church. She worked beside her husband, Rev. William H. Vallance, at all the different churches that they served. She sang in the Church Choir, singing solos and with Duets and Quartets. She also led the youth choirs; she was the small church back up pianist, although she could not read much music, she could sure play by ear. Juanita always taught a Sunday School Class, usually the girls youth class.  

She is survived by her husband, William H. Vallance, who she had been married to for 71 years; one son, William A. (Betty) Vallance; two grandchildren, William “Scott” (Jan) Vallance and Susan Michelle (Josh) Kitchen; four great-grandchildren, Laekin (Noah) Wessel, Brady Vallance, Katie Vallance and Taylor Robinson; one great-great grandson, Liam Wessel; and one sister, Ramona “Monie” Van Horn (David) Webb.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in her name to Community Hospice at 1480 Carter Ave, Ashland, KY 41101

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 22, 2019 at Carman Funeral Home in Flatwoods with Matt Shamblin officiating. Burial will follow in Bellefonte Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 21, 2019 at the funeral home.
