Douglas Williams, 97, of Flatwoods KY, died February 10, 2018 at his home from complications of Lewy Body Dementia and pneumonia.  He passed from this life to his eternal home and is now reunited with his loving wife, Marjorie.  At his passing he was surrounded by his loving family.

He was born June 24, 1920, in Sitka KY to Cecil and Ruby Turner Williams.  During World War II he was an ambulance driver in the First Armored Division under General Patton and fought in North Africa and Italy, where he was in the battle of Anzio.

After the war he married his sweetheart Marjorie Rice, moved to Ashland, then to Flatwoods, where he lived the remainder of his life.  He was employed by Armco Steel as a crane operator for 37 years.

Doug was the rock of the family.  He was always willing to give a helping hand whenever needed.  He was happiest when surrounded by family and loved gardening, yard work, and tinkering around the house.

Doug was a member of Advance Memorial United Methodist Church in Flatwoods and loved attending services when he was able.

He was a Kentucky Colonel.

Doug was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Marjorie, his parents and his two brothers, Leslie Williams and Garry Williams.

He is survived by daughters Connie (Bud) Williams of Russell, Beverly (Larry) Conner of Flatwoods, Teresa Williams of Flatwoods, and son Dwight (Becky) Williams, Tavares FL, 7 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, sister Deloris (Tootie) Picklesimer, Milford Center OH, numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins who loved him very much, and in-laws whom he regarded as true brothers and sisters.

The family wishes to give a special thanks to his team of caregivers who have been such a blessing over the past few years: Rozella and J W Pate, Melvin Russell, Barbara Whitman, Donna Hignite, Angelee and Mike Bressler, and Casey Hamm.

The family also wishes to thank Randy Lemaster for his help and support over the past few weeks.

Funeral Services will be at 1:00 pm Friday, February 16, 2018 at Carman Funeral Home in Flatwoods with Pastor Mark Wilson officiating. Burial will follow in Bellefonte Memoiral Gardens.

Visitation will be from 6-8 pm, Thursday, Feb. 15, 2018 at the funeral home.
