Della E. Burton 101 and a half, of Russell went to be with the Lord Thursday, March 30, 2017 in the Community Hospice Care Center.

Mrs. Burton was born October 11, 1915 to the late J.D. and Della Mary Sweet in Hinton, WV.

She is preceded in death by her husband Edmond Burton; Great-grandson Joshua Cory Coburn; Brother Dick Sweet.

Della loved spending time with her family; she was always out and about, staying involved with her church, Mead Memorial United Methodist, and her community. Della was a member of the the Russell Civic League, Women’s club, PTA President, Tranqulan Swim Club, and she traveled extensively with the Road Runners of Ashland.

Another of her great loves was the Russell Senior Center. There she would play cards, share delicious meals, and cherished the love and admiration of many friends.

Della prayed that she would be able to see the opening of the new Russell-Ironton Bridge. Thankfully, she was able to accomplish this dream and was so proud to be included in cutting the ribbon ceremony.

Left behind to remember and carry on with her legacy are her daughters, Mary Ellen (Roger) Griffith, and Celeste (Roger) McClanahan; Grandchildren Joey (Sara) McClanahan, Janelle McClanahan, J.W. (Sherry) Griffith, and Celeste (Jon) Lehr; Great-grandchildren, Bailey, Riley, and Molly McClanahan, Cori Coburn, Oliver, and Owen Lehr, and Hayden Griffith.

Funeral services will be Monday, April 3, 2017 at Carman Funeral Home in Flatwoods, at 1 pm with Pastor Larry Puryear and Pastor Raymond Payne officiating. Burial will follow in Bellefonte Memorial Gardens.

Friends may call after 11 am Monday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers donations are suggested to the Mead Memorial United Methodist Church, or the Ashland Community Hospice Care Center.
