David Michael Kersey

David Michael Kersey, 75, of Russell, passed away December 16, 2021 in Georgetown, KY.

Mr. Kersey was born January 12, 1946, in Ashland, to the late Harlan “Jr” (Sunny) Kersey and Virginia Workman Mays.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by one sister, Delores Kay Hogsten; two brothers, Greg and Roger Kersey; and a special uncle and golfing buddy, Bobby Kersey.

Dave began working at Armco Steel at a young age, shortly after moving to Mussester’s Super Value and continued his journey in the grocery business at Kroger then onto Maplehurst as a bakery supplier. He loved food and lived to eat, on November 17, 1983, Dave opened the Bakery that we have all come to love. His goal was creating a place that all could enjoy.  Dave was known for his quirky sayings, one being “Donuts make your brown eyes blue”.

Outside of the bakery his passion was scratch off tickets and golfing, often saying he would play every day that ended in y. He was full of life, always smiling, ready to tell a good joke, and had an infectious laugh.

He was a generous man who loved to give. Dave was a member of the Elks Lodge #350 for over 50 years. For more than 38 years he donated all of the desserts provided at the Elks Thanksgiving and Christmas Dinners. He also served on the Russell City Council for 24 years. He was a member of the Ashland Area Business Boosters and enjoyed his Thursday morning breakfast meeting with the group.

Surviving is his wife of 56 years, Billie J. Kersey; one daughter, Kris Kersey Ramsey; one son, David M. Kersey II; seven grandchildren, Emma Ramsey, Olivia Ramsey, Jacob Kersey, Mason Kersey, Brooklyn Kersey, Louanne Kersey and Payton Kersey; two sisters, Sue (Steve) Lyons and Diana Hart; and one brother, Jeff (Karen) Kersey.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations are made to Bridges Christian Church at 1402 Kenwood Dr. Russell, KY 41169 or to the Haiti Sunlight Mission and School in C/O Bridges Christian Church at the same address.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 P.M., Tuesday, December 21, 2021 at Bridges Christian Church.

Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M., Monday, December 20, 2021 at the Church.
