Darryle Gene Toney

August 26, 1937 ~ January 20, 2021 (age 83) 83 Years Old

Tribute

Darryle Gene Toney, of Russell, Kentucky, left his earthly home in the wee hours of the morning on January 20, 2021. Darryle was born in his childhood home in Raceland, Kentucky on August 26, 1937. His parents, Carl and Mabel Toney, raised five children in that loving home. Darryle was the last surviving member of his family. His siblings included Carl Toney, Rosalie Toney Gerheart, Charles Toney, and Anna Toney Persinger.

Darryle is survived by his loving wife, Edna Maxine Toney, of twenty-nine years. Darryle is also survived by his daughter, Darris Toney Duncan (Dr. Gary) and grandchildren Madison Duncan and Mason Duncan; his son, David Toney (Molly) and granddaughters Harper Toney and Marlowe Toney; his stepson, Bruce Gabbard and granddaughter Taylor Gabbard; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Darryle also leaves behind four lifelong buddies: Barry Grimm, Wayne Melvin, Jerry Moore, and Wayne Haney. Two other good friends, George Jupin and Danny Kearns, beat Darryle to Heaven.

Darryle was a steelworker at Armco Steel and worked in the Hot Strip Mill until he retired to take care of his ailing father. Family was always Darryle's number one concern. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking, being the ultimate handyman and jack of all trades, reading the newspaper, following the Cincinnati Reds, and cheering on his UK Wildcats.

Darryle was one of the good guys: hard-working, multi-talented, dependable, loving, and loyal. He had a silly, wicked-dry sense of humor that was usually accompanied by a partial Cheshire cat grin. He will be greatly missed by his wife, his family, and his friends.

In lieu of flowers donations are suggested to Community Hospice.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 23, 2020 at Carman Funeral Home.
