Charles "Coach Papaw" Evans

Charles “Coach Papaw” Evans, 83, of Flatwoods passed away January 12, 2023 in the Ashland Community Hospice Care Center.

Mr. Evans was born May 16, 1939, in Ashland, to the late Randy and Mary Stringer Evans.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister, Janice LeBrun.

Charles was a former Chemical Engineer for Aristech Chemical Plant. Known by many as Coach Papaw, he was a soccer coach alongside his son for many years for the Russell Independent School System. He had an outgoing personality and enjoyed making others laugh. Charles was a kind and caring man who loved spending time with his family, listening to the Statler Brothers and working on computers. He was a member of the National Guard and was in the 202 Army Band where he played trumpet. He was also a member of the Oak Street Freewill Baptist Church.

He is survived by his loving wife, Eula Mae Nickell Evans; one son, Jeffrey (Kim) Evans and Lisa Ann Crawford; along with a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and other close family and friends.

In lieu of flowers donations are suggested to Carman Funeral Home to assist in final expenses.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 P.M., Monday, January 16, 2023 at Carman Funeral Home with Pastor Donny McKenzie officiating. Burial will follow in Bellefonte Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be from 12:00 P.M. to 1:00 P.M., Monday at the funeral home.
