Burton Bailey Atkins Jr., of Flatwoods, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2018, at home, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born June 27, 1926, in Covington, Va., the son of the late Burton Atkins Sr. and Bettie Richardson Atkins.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Glenna Mae Stevens Atkins; two daughters, Karen Atkins and Jenifer Johnson; a son, Claude Atkins; three sisters, Lena Belle Byers, Margaret Dawson, and Beeryl Williams; and a grandson, Jeremy.
Burton was a U.S. Navy Veteran and worked as a rigger for AK Steel. He was a member of Advance United Methodist Church. Burton loved wood working, gardening and bowling.
He is survived by a daughter, Ann (Steve) May of Flatwoods; two sons, Mark (Charlotte) Atkins and Jimmy Stevens; 11 grandchildren, Samuel, Sonja, Shane, Benjamin, Jeff, Nichole, Charlie, Ashley, Chad, Nathan and Stevie; and nine great-grandchildren, Payton, Loralie, T.J. Lilly, McKaela, Leighadawn, Devan, Jacob and Layla “Boone”.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 22, 2018, at Carman Funeral Home in Flatwoods. Burial will be in Bellefonte Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
