Tribute

Bengamin W. Johnson, 89, of Flatwoods, KY passed away July 14, 2022 surrounded by his family.

Mr. Johnson was born July 18, 1932, in Ashland, KY to the late William and Susan Pennington Johnson.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving and devoted wife of 64 years Roberta ‘Bobbie’ Johnson, daughter, Janet Christine Johnson, and siblings William T Johnson, Howard B Johnson, Clyde Elmer Johnson, Ruby Lee Scott, Geneva Pinkston, Mary Louise Merritt, Audie Jane King, and Tilsman J Johnson.

Bengamin retired from Armco Steel in 1991 after 36 years of employment.  He was a member of the USW Local 1865 before becoming Electric Shop Foreman.  He served in the United States Navy from 1951-1955 aboard the USS Coral Sea and the USS Leyte. Bengamin was a member of the Flatwoods First Baptist Church, where he was a past deacon. He was a member of Smith Lodge #775, 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason Valley of Covington, KY, former advisor for both DeMolay Owen R. Meadors Chapter & Rainbow Greenup Assembly #28.  He was a Grampion and advocate for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, along with many other achievements. Bengamin enjoyed golfing, tinkering with little projects, family events, wood working, especially helping kids prepare for the Pinewood Derby, helping others, but most of all traveling to 46 out of the 50 states with the love of his life Bobbie.

He is survived by two daughters, Dianna (David) Compston and Cindy (Brett) Kennard, 11 grandchildren, Ben (Tiffani) Johnson II, T.C. (Amy) Jones, Clyde (Trisha) Johnson, Megan Holland, Emily (Robert) Jones, Jessica (Michael) Thomas, Travis (Brittany) Compston, Myca (Tabby) Williams, Elizabeth (James) Kennard, Maria (Bryan) Hendrickson and Devon (Tyler) O’Neal; and 20 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by one special brother-in-law Bill (Evie) Reed, along with a host of loving family and friends that will miss him dearly.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Wednesday, July. 20, 2022, at Carman Funeral Home in Flatwoods with Pastor Jim Nichols, and Dave Daniels officiating. Burial will be in Kentucky Veterans Cemetery North East.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, July. 19, 2022, at the funeral home.
