Ashland “Pap” Joseph Sr., 78, of Raceland passed away Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2020 in the Community Hospice Care Center surrounded by his family.
Mr. Joseph was born Jan. 31, 1942 to the late Dayton and Geneva Adkins Joseph in Prestonsburg, KY.
In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by one daughter, Katrina Joseph; one grandson, Armon Jackson Fraley; 12 brothers and sisters, Meda Yates, Harold Junior Joseph, Bob Joseph, Paul Joseph, Betty Lou Calhoun, Rosemary Joseph, Herman Joseph, Buck Joseph, Morgan Joseph, Tina Joseph, Mary Margaret Joseph and Ronnie Joseph.
Ash was of the Baptist Faith. He retired from the State of Kentucky Highway Department; he was also a former Emergency Medical Technician and the former owner of Medi-Kare Ambulance Service. He loved watching westerns and embodied a true Appalachian spirit. Ash served in the United States Army. He was an avid sports fan, known in his younger years as Bainey on the football field. Most of all he loved spending time with family.
Surviving is his soulmate of 55 years, Wanda Snow Kendrick Joseph; celebrating their anniversary for 55 years sharing a bologna sandwich, Reese’s Cup and bottle of Coca Cola and telling her how much he loved her at least a thousand times a day. Also surviving is one daughter, Casey (Patrick) Fraley; four sons, Harry Joseph, Ashland (Eva) Joseph Jr., Todd Joseph and Joshua Joseph; special son, Dain Bender, III; six grandchildren, Franca (Ryan) Tolliver, Ashland (Elizabeth) Joseph III, Baleigh Joseph, Isabella Joseph, Abigail Fraley and Lucas Joseph; one great-granddaughter, Hazel Katrina Joseph; three sisters, Geraldine Lemaster, Barbara Joseph and Christine Deaton; along with a host of other family and friends.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m., Monday, Feb. 24, 2020 at Carman Funeral Home with brothers Jack McCleese and Rodney Vance officiating. Burial will follow in Bellefonte Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., on both Saturday, Feb. 22, 2020, and Sunday, Feb. 23, 2020 at the funeral home.
