Sylvia Carmena Roby Miller, 83, of Russell, passed away peacefully Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2018, in Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland.

Sylvia was born Oct. 6, 1934, in Ashland, to Carl C. Roby Sr. and Genevieve Fullmer Roby.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her stepfather, Clarence Weldon Sr.; and half-brother, Carl C. Roby Jr.

Sylvia was a graduate of Russell High School Class of 1952 and Medical College of Virginia School of Radiology.

She was a Registered X-Ray Technician, Certified ER nurse and the first female EMT in Kentucky. She was a certified Red Cross First-Aid Instructor.

Sylvia was a member of First Baptist Church in Russell.

Sylvia's husband, Harold R. Miller passed away March 29, 2008.

She is survived by her sons, David R. Miller (Cindy) of Murfreesboro, Tenn., and Daniel A. Miller (Donna) of Nokomis, Fla.; three granddaughters, Erin Miller McDonough (Brendan) of Plymouth, Mass., Wendi Miller of Versailles and Amy Miller of Richmond; and a great-grandson, Kaiden McDonough of Plymouth, Mass.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 27, 2018, at Carman Funeral Home in Flatwoods. Final resting place will be in Bellefonte Memorial Gardens in Flatwoods.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, January 26, 2017, at the funeral home.
