Roger Eugene Hayner

Roger Eugene Hayner, 66, of Hebron, KY, formerly of Flatwoods, passed away on March 11, 2024, in the University of Cincinnati Medical Center.

Mr. Hayner was born April 20, 1957, in Huntington, WV, to the late Thomas and Mildred Tackett Hayner.

Roger was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend who always put the needs of his family first.  He began his career as a management trainee at JC Penney and worked his way up to various positions as a chemist and executive for several asphalt companies, including Ashland Oil, Marathon, Terry Industries, Warrior Asphalt, Colas, and SWT. Roger retired from Associated Asphalt, LLC in 2021, where he was the Director of Production and Processes. He was a problem solver and innovator, earning 32 U.S. Patents for inventions in the field of asphalt chemistry. Roger was a graduate of Morehead State University and Marshall University. In his spare time, he loved restoring vintage cars, especially his prized possession, a 1962 Chevy Impala SS.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Judy Leake Hayner; one son, Roger Hayner of Hebron, KY; one daughter, Stefanie (Drew) Justice of Madison, AL; two grandchildren, Eliza, and Miles Justice; two brothers, Bob (Beth) Hayner and Jim (Sue) Hayner; along with a host of nieces, nephews, and other close family and lifelong friends.

In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to the University of Cincinnati Health Liver Transplant Center.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m., Monday, March 18, 2024, at Carman Funeral Home with Pastor Eddie Wiler officiating. Burial will follow at Ashland Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M., Monday, at the funeral home.
