Harold Lloyd Tackett, 94, of Flatwoods passed away Friday, August 4, 2017 at Oakmont Manor in Flatwoods. He was born May 1, 1923 in Naples, KY., a son of the late Arbit and Martha Bonifacious Tackett.
He was a member of Cannonsburg United Methodist Church and retired from the United States Postal Service. Harold was a World War II Army Veteran, a POW and received the Purple Heart. He was taken by the Germans in Utweiler (Region: Saarland) Germany and taken to Heppenheim, Germany POW prison camp/hospital. When freed by allies he was taken to the 48th General Hospital in Paris, France and that his where he received his Purple Heart. Mr. Tackett was a graduate of Wurtland High School in 1942.
Besides his parents he is preceded in death by his wife Alberta Justice Tackett, two brothers Carlos Leon Tackett and Earl Eugene Tackett, two sisters Bertha Tackett and Pauline Tackett.
Surviving are one son Gregory Shawn Tackett of Flatwoods, one brother Roy (Gail) Tackett of Flatwoods, sisters-in-law Delores Tackett and Mary Lee Tackett, along with several other family and friends who will mourn his passing.
Funeral services will be 1 P.M. Tuesday, August 8, 2017 at the Carman Funeral Home in Flatwoods with Rev Tyler Brumfield officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Burial Park in Ashland. Friends may call at the Carman Funeral Home Monday, August 7, 2017 from 6 PM until 8 PM and from 12 PM until the service hour on Tuesday.
