George Paul “Sam” Sammons, 76, of Worthington passed away Saturday, May 20, 2017 surrounded by his loving family at his residence.
Mr. Sammons was born in Greenup County on September 28, 1940 to the late George W. and Lucy Sammons.
In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by two brothers David Sammons and Fred Sammons.
George proudly served and retired from the United States Air Force; afterwards he went to work for the US Postal Service where he retired. He was a member of the Raceland Christian Church, loved taking photographs, camping, being out in nature, and riding his ATV with his dog Peaches. Most importantly he was a man that loved the Lord, his family and his country above and beyond anything.
Left behind to carry on his legacy is his wife of 54 years, Hester Gallion-Sammons; two sons Paul (Rebecca) Sammons, and Matthew (Mollie) Sammons; grandchildren Courtney Sammons, Brady Sammons, Jack Sammons, Aron Sammons, and Sydney Sammons; two sisters Jane Sammons, and Ethel Hoanaker; sister-in-law Wanda (Terry) Irons; brother-in-law Buddy Gallion, along with a host of other family and friends that will miss him dearly.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 24, 2017 at Raceland Christian Church with Pastors Jason Lykins and Greg Denton officiating. Burial will be in Bellefonte Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, May 23, 2017 at Carman Funeral Home in Flatwoods.
