Mary Smith Donehoo, 90, of Flatwoods, KY passed away peacefully on Friday, July 11, 2014 in Woodland Oaks Health Care Facility.
Mary was born August 2, 1923 in Ashland, KY to the late Kelly and Minnie Fields Smith.
Mrs. Donehoo worked as a secretary to the Joint Chief of Staff of the White House General George C. Marshall. She enjoyed hobbies such as spending time with her church family and friends, communicating through CB with the nickname “Turtle Dove” that followed her throughout her life, she also enjoyed sewing, was president of the Russell High School PTA and a parent band boosters, but most of all she enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, family and friends.
Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her late husband James Paul Donehoo Jr. in 1988, one son James P. Donehoo III in 2011, one grandchild Shannon Donehoo in 1989, and one sister Evelyn Smith in 1975.
Left behind to cherish her memory is one son Michael (Diva) Donehoo of New Port Richey, Fla, one daughter Deborah (George) Williams of Ashland, KY, three grandchildren, Yvette(James) Williams Sparks of Texas, Christopher Donehoo of Pennsylvania, and Allison Donehoo also of Pennsylvania, and many other family and friends that will miss her dearly.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, July 16, 2014 at 12:00 noon at Carman Funeral Home-Flatwoods. Burial will follow at Ashland Cemetery.
Visitation for family and friends will be held on Tuesday, July 15, 2014 from 6-8pm at the funeral home.
